Brian Reedy-Featured Artist

  1. Tell us something about yourself; What is your creative history? Originally from Illinois, I moved to Miami in 1994 to get my MFA. I’ve been exhibiting and selling artwork for the last 25 years. My online shop is www.Etsy.com/shop/WoodcutEmporium.

  1. What inspired you to become an art educator? How long have you been teaching?I started teaching as soon as I moved to Miami, and immediately loved it – I’ve been with Dade County Public Schools since 2001, teaching all grade levels. I love kids of every age – I don’t have a preferred grade that I like to teach.

  2. What is your favorite medium to work in and why? My favorite medium is wood/linoblock printing because the graphic nature of the medium works well for the types of images I draw.

  3. What is your proudest teaching moment? I’m always happy for the successes of my students, winning awards and such, but I’m equally proud of the moments when a struggling non-artistic student has a breakthrough.

  4. If you could have lunch with any artist in the world (living or not) who would it be and why? Albrecht Durer is my all-time favorite artist, and I would love to get some insight from someone like that.

  5. What are your personal and professional art dreams for the future? I’m really happy the way things are going now, balancing my teaching and art careers – I just hope I can maintain it, learn from each experience, get better!
