Peter DeMercado

The Ocean's deadliest predator is trash and sustainability is the antidote. Peter's love of sustainability is the inspiration for his fantastical sea creatures made of salvaged objects. Art educator and artist Peter DeMercado creates whimsical underwater creatures and sculptures from materials he collects from garbage bins or donated by friends, family or the Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials. DeMercado has made it his mission to instill in his students a respect for nature and natural resources using the visual arts. DeMercado is an exhibiting artist whose work is sought after by private collectors and we are proud to have him as our first auctioned artist in this website.

"A longtime painter, DeMercado said he decided to get into sculpting and assemblage. He has created hundreds of pieces over the years. DeMercado says that the entire world serves as his inspiration and that everything he sees is potentially a piece of art.

“Every piece is a creation of itself,” says DeMercado. “Every piece has the potential to be the best piece.”
